August
– Students in the summer program will begin drafting their college essay
– Guest speakers from local universities visit Dearborn during summer program
September
– Seniors create Common App profile
– Seniors begin Common App application
– Seniors begin drafting college essay
– Seniors identify who will write recommendation letters
– Seniors identify application requirements (recommendations, supplemental essays, SAT scores, etc)
– Growth Mindset and Goal Setting (all high school)
October
– Seniors to ask for letters of recommendation from teachers/guidance counselors
– Seniors begin Financial Aid process: FAFSA is released – begin application process
– Identify trade or union deadlines (if applicable)
– Seniors complete CSS profile on College Board (if applicable)
November
– Seniors order SAT scores for applications (if applicable)
December
– Financial literacy focus (all high school)
January
– Complete a resumè and practice finding a job and a practice a mock interview (all high school)
February
– Seniors start looking at scholarship opportunities
March
– Students start finding employment for the summer, volunteer opportunities, and educational summer experiences (all high school who are interested)
April
May
– Seniors explore living with roommates and college life (accessing resources on campus etc)
– Seniors review a sample college syllabus and explore the tracking system they will use in college
– Seniors review a sample college schedule and practice creating their own method of tracking their class schedule, study time, and other obligations
June
– Rising seniors work with Guidance team to plan for a productive summer of transition planning (preview essay prompts for Common App, college tours, looking at admission requirements, application process)
