Schools for Children Special Ed Schools Pass DESE Review with Flying Colors!
As you are most likely aware, Dearborn Academy is part of the non-profit education organization
Schools for Children (SFC), which, in addition to Dearborn Academy, also operates Seaport Academy – a thriving therapeutic school for boys, located in Chelsea. SFC’s goal for both schools is to provide
students with specialized instruction in a joyful, caring, diverse, and empowering environment with
therapeutic support in partnership with caregivers and school districts – enabling them to achieve their
full potential.
Every three years, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
reviews all approved special education schools to ensure that they meet state and federal regulations.
DESE’s findings are then compiled into a report.
To complete their reviews, on-site visits were conducted at each of SFC’s therapeutic programs:
Dearborn Academy, Dearborn Summer Program, and Seaport Academy. DESE’s thorough assessment found that all requirements were fully implemented, and as a result, no corrective action is needed.
This is an outstanding testament to the excellent administration of SFC’s programs and the fantastic
work being done on behalf of our students. We couldn’t have hoped for a better result!
We are proud of the dedicated faculty and staff at each of our therapeutic programs for this
achievement.
We hope you will take the time to read the report, which is entitled a Mid Cycle report as it occurs in the third year of a six-year cycle.
