Dearborn Traditions

Community celebrations and traditions are a big part of life at Dearborn Academy.

Some of our favorite events are:

The Annual Strategy Games Tournament

Dearborn we use strategic games to help students build important social and higher-order thinking skills, so games like chess, Scrabble and chess, are extremely popular with our students. Each year, Dearborn hosts an annual strategic game tournament—the competition is friendly but intense. We recognize all the winners for their good sportsmanship and skill during assemblies and put up posters of our strategy game champions in the main hallway.

The Dearborn Academy Luncheon

A major celebration with speakers, visitors and friends! Learn more about our annual Luncheon.

Dearborn Academy Thanksgiving Celebration

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a special day at Dearborn. Each classroom is transformed into a dining room as faculty and students bring in special dishes to share (the kitchen provides the turkey and the stuffing). Students and teachers sit down at formal table settings and share and reflect on those things they are truly grateful for.

Spring Field Day Fun and Games

An all-day outdoor extravaganza of competitive recreational events along with relaxing and socializing. With a three-legged race, a water balloon toss, and an obstacle course (just a few of the many events)—and hot dogs and hamburgers galore—there is truly something for everyone. The class with the highest score gets to display the Field Day trophy in their homeroom for the following year.

High School Prom

Dearborn's Prom is held on a Friday in early June and has become the social event of the year. The student prom committee helps plan the theme, food, and fundraising for the event. With decorating help from the staff and students, the gym is transformed into a magical venue. Students have a blast as they dance the night away.

The High School Graduation and Awards Ceremony

Our annual Graduation and Awards Ceremony marks the end of a challenging and rewarding journey. With all pomp and circumstance, the senior class is introduced and brought to the stage wearing blue and gold caps and gowns to receive their hard-won diplomas. As we congratulate our graduates every year, we have the opportunity to reflect on how far they've come.

We are proud to mark this milestone in their lives because it truly is an extraordinary accomplishment.
